Annual Meeting of the GAWCA 2023

The annual meeting of the General Andrew Ward Cemetery Association was held on August 19, 2023. By all accounts it was a lovely day and a great turnout. Minutes have been submitted and can be found on the Bylaws and Minutes tab. In that section there is also an updated “Reference for Burials” guide for direct descendants of General Andrew Ward and their spouses. Here is a photo of this year’s attendees. Annual Meeting of the GAWCA 2022

Although webmaster/board member Sharon Olson was not able to attend this year, she and her Foote descendant husband Bill Sumner made a special pilgrimage to Colchester, Connecticut this summer to inspect Nathaniel Foote’s home (built 1702).

Annual Meeting of GAWCA

The meeting was held in person this year on Saturday, August 14, 2021, in the wide open, welcoming setting of the General Andrew Ward Cemetery. Those in attendance (see photo) were L – R:

The 2020 Annual Meeting of the General Andrew Ward Cemetery Association took place online via Zoom because of the Covid-19 pandemic which made travel and meetings problematic. But a great deal was accomplished, by-laws revised, a new officer created, and the usual pleasantries and good will exchanged.

Assembly of the Living 2019

The 2019 Annual meeting of the General Andrew Ward Cemetery Association took place on July 14, 2019. Members who attended were: Kim Clark, Tommy Clark, with two year old Izzy Jokell and soon to arrive little sister Winifred!, James Haddock, Katie Foote Haddock, Tim Harwood, Elizabeth Rounsavall, Elliott Rounsavall, Mary Foote Rounsavall, Peggy Vermilya, and Peter Vermilya. Minutes of the meeting were taken by Katie Haddock and are posted on the bylaws/minutes page.

2018 Assembly of the Living

This year’s meeting was held on Sunday, August 5. Attendees were (pictured here) Julia Moore Converse Bartholomew, Richard Bartholomew, Peter Vermilya, Tim Harwood, Kim Clark, Mary Rounsavall, Sharon Olson, Arnie Lisio, Anne Moore Lisio, and Katie Haddock. The results of the Topographix scans were summarized by Peter and are available to see on a new, accurate layout of our cemetery (see cemetery layout page).

Tim Harwood brought two wonderful old documents to us on Sunday. One is a June 5th, 1777 letter from Gov. Jonathan Trumbull telling Andrew Ward that the General Assembly had approved his nomination to Brigadier General; the other is a document indicating charter membership of Harriet Ward Foote Taylor in the Association of  the Descendants of Andrew Ward, dated August 29, 1904.

Annual Meeting August 17, 2017

2016 Assembly of the Living

The annual meeting was held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the cemetery. The minutes and a draft treasurer’s report have been posted.

2015 Assembly of the Living

The annual meeting was held on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the cemetery. Details about the meeting and minutes are forthcoming.

The annual meeting was held on Sunday, June 29th, 2014, 11 a.m. at the cemetery. Much adulation of the new fence posts (work of Peter Vermilya). Discussion of sunken vs. missing stones. New treasurer report, minutes, and interment procedures have been posted on the password-protected section of our website. Members will have to undergo spelling remediation. It is spelled interment, not internment, otherwise we will have to fortify the current fencing.
